Whether you choose software like RetireMite™ or use a financial pro (they
use software, too), you need to ask some questions.
We did a survey of price and
services. Click here to see the results.
And we rounded up some questions to ask before you make a selection:
Getting on board
- Do you require an initial investment?
Some planners insist you have at least $100,000.
- Fees. What are your initial fees? Money management fees? Commissions? Bonuses?
- What does that mean in actual dollars per year?
- What does the total add up to over the next ___ years?
- Will you keep reworking the plan until it makes the best financial sense for me?
How many times? Is there an extra charge for each try? How will I know when it makes
the best sense for me?
RetireMite™
has no minimums. There are no fees, no percentage and you
can try all the ideas you want without an appointment, an hourly fee or even
going on-line.
Your investments
- Do you offer investment selections? Is there an
additional charge? How much?
- Are investment selections limited to your sponsor company's products
(called 'offerings') ?
- Do you have a choice of where
(which brokerage) I invest? Can I use discount brokers?
RetireMite™ gives you an
investment shopping list™ that lets you shop wherever you please, so
you're always sure of getting the best deal.
Updating your plan to keep up with your life
- How much does an annual portfolio review and balance cost?
- How often do you call with recommendations to change investments
(abusing this is called 'churning' - it makes for higher commissions).
- There's never a fee to update your portfolio and keep it balanced when you
use
RetireMite™. Your investment
shopping list™ shows how much to buy. And since we're not affiliated with
any one brokerage, we don't force recommendations on you. You shop for what
you want, where you want, when you want!
Your money
- Security. Who handles my money? Who handles my accounts? Who
receives the statements from the brokerage? You or the planner? Is this person certified? Bonded? Insured?
- Privacy. Who else knows my business?
- Access and convenience. Can I work on my plan anytime
anywhere, or do I need an appointment?
- What do you
use? Most planners use software.
- You're always in control of your money with
RetireMite™.
And your information remains where it belongs - on YOUR computer - and you can
do what you want whenever you please.
